Confused by UK-EU politics? Talk2EU explains what is going on, plain speaking, without spin or party lines.
The Real Reason Politics Feel So Hard to Follow
You’re not the only one who feels lost in politics.
Whether you voted Leave, Remain, or didn’t get the chance to vote at all, you’ve probably had a moment of frustration: reading a headline about the EU, a new deal, or “Brussels demanding” something, and it’s just not clear what’s really happening or why it matters.
That confusion isn’t your fault; politics has become layered with jargon, abbreviations, slogans and noise. Debates seem to split into sides before people have even had time to understand the questions.
When that happens, politics feels like a shouting match, and it’s easy to switch off and avoid it completely.
But here’s the problem: when people switch off, the decision-making process doesn’t stop. Decisions just get made by fewer people, sometimes behind closed doors, and often by those who don’t fully understand the problems either. Decision-making in groups of people has been successful using citizen assemblies, but it helps if everyone has some basic understanding of the jargon and the underlying concepts.

What Gets Lost in the Noise
The UK’s relationship with the EU affects more than most of us realise, from prices in the shops to jobs, travel and border checks. Yet, even a decade after the Brexit referendum, terms like the single market, the customs union, and trade alignment still sound like dark arts to many people.
That lack of understanding has real consequences, because it leaves space for confusion and spin.
A phrase like “taking back control” or “Brussels controlling us” can mean very different things depending on who’s saying it, and what they want you to think. The details get lost in translation. And when they do, it’s almost impossible to tell a good idea from a bad one.

Talk2EU, Translating UK-EU Politics Back Into Plain English
We built Talk2EU to make those details easier to read and understand.
We’re not here to tell people what to think. Many of our contributors believe the UK lost something really valuable when it left the EU, but our job isn’t to campaign. It’s to make the facts clear so you can make up your own mind.
We know democracy only works when people can see what’s really happening and have the confidence to ask questions. That’s where we come in: we try to translate the political noise into something readable, so you can decide for yourself.
Why This Matters Now
The UK is still figuring out its place in Europe and the wider world. There’s still confusion, noise, and a gap in the wider understanding.
Understanding how things work doesn’t mean picking sides; it means being able to see clearly, so that no one else thinks for you.
Conclusion
Talk2EU is just getting started, and we’d like to build it with people who care about making politics feel clearer.
